Arne Jacobsen.Timeless furniture and the design revolution.

Danish designer and architect Arne Jacobsen, an advocate of the Modern Movement and of a rationalist aesthetic, stands out for his unique and absolutely personal style. Thanks to the encounter between curved forms and a structural rigor typical of Scandinavian design, Jacobsen envisioned furniture with simple lines, perfect for everyday use, but also treasuring a surprising charm. The chairs, nowadays still timeless icons, are the maximum expression of his design concept. The Swan armchair, the Series 7 chair, the Ant chair and the Egg Chair, all still produced today, bear witness to the most authentic evolution of the furniture industry, which opened the doors to mass production, thus cutting costs and installation. It is a harmonious and recognizable approach over time, so much so that it became the benchmark of Nordic design.

Like a warm hug, the Egg chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen, creates a protective shell in which to huddle and feel protected. The intentionally pronounced rounded shapes become sculptural, contrasting with the slender chrome legs. Its high and adjustable backrest provides comfort and breaks the alternation between vertical and horizontal lines of interior spaces. From 1958 to today, more than sixty years later, the Egg chair is considered one of the most emblematic pieces of Scandinavian design.

Conceived in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, the Drop chair stands out for its current and modern look, which is rather revolutionary considering the time of its creation. The characteristic teardrop shape best expresses Jacobsen's charisma,

who was able to seamlessly blend functionality with aesthetic finesse. The soft and sinuous contours often recur in the designer's creations, who envisioned enveloping and comfortable furniture, like small shelters where to relax.

Light, stackable and with a thin "waist", as suggested by its name. The Ant chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1951 for the canteen of a pharmaceutical firm, was born from the need to have a practical object that could be easily moved and stacked. However, it soon became one of the most successful and internationally sold design icons, to the point of creating new versions. Its minimal and delicate lines draw an enveloping structure, characterized by a curved plywood shell and a combination of two apparently different materials, steel and wood.

An evolution of the Ant chair, Series 7, produced by Fritz Hansen, features versatile combinations and customizable structural elements, always in line with Arne Jacobsen's design view,

or which the form must adapt gently to the function of the object. It is considered one of the most popular pieces of furniture in the world of design, due to its ability to embellish any setting: from the kitchen to the workplace.

Arne Jacobsen's AJ lamps collection, produced by Louis Poulsen, are envisioned with a minimalist and pure silhouette. Both table and floor models feature a decisive profile that leaves space for the soft and comfortable light, conceived to be diffused from the fixture downwards. Thanks to the movable structure, the upper part can be tilted at will, so as to improve the light distribution in the space.

Among Arne Jacobsen's masterpieces, the Swan Armchair was created in 1958 for the lobby of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The swivel armchair is produced by the brand Fritz Hansen and reveals a highly innovative stylistic and design choice in relation to the time of its creation. Its identity is marked by curved and sinuous lines, like a shell on an aluminium star-shaped base made of mounted on a brushed steel pedestal.
