Astep, the lighting brand that blends past and future

"A never-ending journey, a natural but essential movement towards the creation of something that is better, more substantial, more worthwhile." This is the meaning of the name Astep, a design company founded in 2014 by Alessandro Sarfatti, but whose glorious history began in 1939. His father Riccardo Sarfatti was the founder of the Luceplan brand, and his grandfather Gino Sarfatti the owner of Arteluce. Three generations that managed to create timeless objects, keeping tradition alive and looking increasingly towards the future with the aid of the latest digital technologies. The collections of lamps, often reissued, enrich the relationship between people and their homes: from the sophisticated elegance of Model 2065 and Le Sfere to the versatile VV Cinquanta Twin models.

A synthesis of beauty and refinement, the Model 2065 collection is the symbol of Gino Sarfatti's experimentation with methacrylate. Two opalescent elliptical plates are joined to create an essential and minimalist lamp, almost weightless. In addition to the suspension version, the company produces a wall-mounted model with a long, elegantly curved, black painted steel tubular structure.

Its design was modified in 2016 with the addition of an impactful black painted aluminum rosette. An important technical feature with a focus on sustainability was added to the model in 2021: the diffusers, in fact, are made of Green Cast®, a 100% recycled and recyclable PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate), with an aesthetic and functional performance that equals the original one.

Drawing inspiration from the perfection of the moon and the solar system, Gino Sarfatti designed the Le Sfere lamp collection in 1959. Small elements in blown opaline glass are juxtaposed and held by thin rings in black or champagne painted steel, providing a distinctive style and a striking, almost hypnotic visual expression. The Le Sfere collection is suitable for illuminating all types of spaces, from homes to commercial settings. The possible compositions, including the incredible 24-sphere chandelier, emphasize the beauty of pure geometric shapes.

An exquisite Italian masterpiece, the SB Cinquantotto suspension lamp has long held a special place in the Sarfatti family. The mouth-blown frosted opaline glass is shaped on essential and light shapes, diffusing the light in all directions. More contemporary than ever, also due to its original wire mounting, SB Cinquantotto is available in two sizes: one 32 cm in diameter, perfect for the dining table, the other 20 cm in diameter, smaller and more compact.

Designed in 1950 and reintroduced in the Astep table lamp collection, Model 537 reveals Gino Sarfatti's unmistakable mastery. The essential and light lines manage to enhance three different precious materials, designed to merge in a delicate game of balances.

A twisted stem in lacquered or brushed brass holds a large aluminium reflector and extends to become a practical handle. The white marble base, with its classic touch and undeniable elegance, creates a chromatic contrast and highlights Sarfatti's pioneering design.

With their flexible and versatile look, the wall lights in the VV Cinquanta Twin collection can tilt and rotate as needed. Two arms mounted on a brass rod extend in opposite directions, as do the aluminum spotlights that can rotate at various angles to provide direct and indirect lighting. The Wall model in particular can rotate by 350 degrees and be tilted by 160 degrees. The wall lamp, available in designer Vittoriano Viganò's original colors, thus becomes a unique artwork.
