After being part of the family-run company Azucena for 25 years, Marta Sala founded her own design brand in 2015, incorporating luxury furniture and lighting with a contemporary appeal. Thus was born Marta Sala Éditions (MSÉ); during the early years, the company relied on the contribution of two architects from Rome, Claudio Lazzarini and Carl Pickering, to create a new, distinctive world full of personality. The Secret Soul of Useful Things, The Rule of Detail and Rooms are just some of the collections linked by a precise theme of inspiration and influenced by Bauhaus philosophy. Marta Sala envisions high quality versatile furniture, not just single pieces, which can easily adapt to different countries and settings. Each piece of furniture is the outcome of a creative dialogue that combines functionality and excellent craftsmanship.
The themes of the collections, which are selected according to market needs and shared visions, are examined by the solely Italian artisans with whom Marta Sala collaborates. "There is at least three or four skills required to build each object" explains the designer. In just six years, more than 60 different pieces have been added to the catalog, from the splendid Lavinia light P7 armchair to the functional Megan lamp.
These furniture pieces manage to improve people' daily lives, as they are increasingly looking for authenticity and practicality. When a design is effective, the Marta Sala Éditions team makes it evolve, adding product ranges and different models, but preserving the original concept intact.
A fascinating hexagonal shape and flawless proportions. The Lavinia light P7 armchair gets a new, lighter look after the 2016 success of the first edition by architects Lazzarini&Pickering. It seems to emphasize even more the pure geometric lines and the thin iron tubes in a simil brass finish, threaded by hand and combined together. The result is an incredible piece of architecture that retains the glamour of the 1920s but changes weight and materials to make it even more comfortable.
The timeless elegance of the Duda chair from Marta Sala Éditions' first collection remains intact in Dudina, the new smaller version. Its cubic shape, which can be appreciated in the round, is a symbol of minimalism and promotes a design that plays with fabrics and combinations, while encouraging dialogue and conviviality.
Iconic and precious, the Murena chair , designed by Claudio Lazzarini and Carl Pickering in 2016, encapsulates the brand's design approach and emphasizes the geometric, but never rigid, form. The double curve of the structure in galvanized brass, stainless steel or bronze, previously used for the Harry coffee table, highlights the sinuous and poetic lines, which harmonize seamlessly with delicate and soft fabrics. The seat cushion, which is even softer in the new version, is detached from the backrest, reinforcing the geometric vision of the entire piece of furniture.
Crafted from the union of single laser-cut and curved pieces of metal, the Megan lamp-table provides the perfect example of versatility and blends luxury with utility. The lampshade and two distinct Calacatta Gold marble table tops are linked by a splendid brass or bronze frame. This striking piece of furniture was designed by Lazzarini & Pickering in 2017.
