The British creative Faye Toogood's iconic brand identifies with the creative freedom and fusion between interior design, fine arts and fashion. Sculptural works, poetic and innovative, handcrafted by small manufacturers and traditional craftsmen.
The charming world of Toogood creations to discover in the Mohd showrooms in Milan.
Toogood is a London-based design studio started in 2008 by Faye Toogood, a British creative who has made of sustainability and the mixture of disciplines her trademarks. The designer has created a studio that allows for a variety of genres. Architects, sculptors, furniture manufacturers and illustrators cross paths in each project, producing rigorous works, poetic and innovative.
Already an icon from the very first steps, Faye Toogood marks a change in direction, leads to introspection, in an attempt to unlearn in order to question the way of making design. Such questions about production are critical today following the new challenges resulting from the pandemic which have also had an impact on the world of design, fashion and art.
Toogood brand brings a clearly sculptural approach to the art of furniture design, with pieces such as the Spade chair and the Roly-Poly armchair that have become true icons thanks to their strong geometry and form.
The Spade chair is an ode to the rural life in the English countryside in which the designer Faye Toogood has grown and had her first encounter with the forms and colours of nature. The inspiration of the chair stems from the combination of a traditional milking stool and the handle of a spade. A strong icon with references to the past, present and future.
The Fudge armchair is made in sturdy fiberglass and then hand-polished to get a satin-matt finish. A playful product that draws its strength from a subtle asymmetrical element, as it is meticulously handcrafted by master craftsmen one piece at a time. It is therefore quite difficult, if not impossible, to make identical objects.
All of the pieces are handcrafted by small manufacturers and traditional craftsmen, who have remained faithful to the irregularity of the chosen material, whether it be raw fiberglass, aluminium or barium crystal. Toogood produces made-to-order furniture and homewares, as well as limited-edition gallery pieces. Toogood furnishings cross the boundary of fine arts and have been exhibited at the Phillips and Victoria & Albert Museum in London, at the Triennale in Milan, and D Museum in Seoul.
