Molteni&C's latest outdoor collection is a celebration of living en plein air expressed through a material and emotional character, in the name of Italian excellence. A dialogue between landscape and architecture envisioned by art director Vincent Van Duysen.
The new outdoor collections draw inspiration from the elegance of nature and the Italian art of open-air living. Molteni&C presents harmonious collections that combine the voices of several designers in a single, distinctive aesthetic language.
“Feeling embraced by Italian savoir faire and inspired by what surrounds us"
Vincent Van Duysen
The renowned Belgian designer Vincent Van Duysen, art director of the company, has coordinated the two large collections that mark Molteni&C's important debut in outdoor furniture: the Landmark Collection and the Timeout Collection. In addition to his contribute, the products are created by leading contemporary designers, from Foster + Partners to Ron Gilad and Gio Ponti.
"Just as in the 2022 indoor collection for Molteni&C, the new outdoor proposal I again pursued an idea of softness and wellbeing, of organic playfulness in an architectural vision of the furniture. I was inspired by modernism to recall the idea of permeability and transparency between indoor and outdoor spaces, and that intimate connection with light and nature"
Vincent Van Duysen
The iconic Palinfrasca sofa by renowned designer Luca Meda is the most exclusive design in Molteni&C's outdoor collection: a testament to Italian savoir-faire and great craftsmanship. This solid teak wood modular system with curved lines ensures an intense sensation of comfort. The wooden profile enhances the details of the sophisticated woodworking, and the gentle curves contribute to a general soft feel, which is also provided by the generous cushions.
The new Phoenix outdoor sofas by Vincent Van Duysen embody a minimalist and contemporary aesthetic inspired by the shapes of modernist architecture, while interpreting elements of the Mediterranean tradition at the same time. The wrought iron technique and the hand-woven polypropylene cord bring warmth to the minimalist aluminium frame. Lightweight material par excellence, aluminium allows to move furniture easily.
The embracing D.154.2 armchair, one of Gio Ponti's most iconic and representative pieces, designed for the Planchart collectors' villa in Caracas in 1954, has been reinterpreted in an outdoor version through a careful study of materials.
Completing the selection, a collection of rugs includes proposals by Van Duysen himself and designers Nicola Gallizia and Marta Ferri. Subtle and variegated motifs, fabrics with warm tones, delicate yet bold souls.
The Arc cement table by Foster + Partners joins the outdoor selection combining structural attributes of strength and elasticity with innovative concepts such as full recyclability. The result is a statuesque, resistant table with a mono-material and monochrome essence.
