PK22™ represents an everlasting design icon, the incarnation of Poul Kjærholm's aesthetic ideal. Loved by the critics and by the international audience, this minimalist lounge chair becomes the expression of cutting-edge formal research and a masterpiece of European Industrial design. For its anniversary, PK22™ is presented by Fritz Hansen in a new original version that blends the appeal of stainless steel with the love for natural materials and exclusive finishes.

Born in Denmark in 1929, designer Poul Kjaerholm studied cabinetmaking and graduated from the School of Arts and Crafts of Copenhagen, where he networked with two important Danish designers, Hans Wegner and Jørn Utzon. In 1959 he became assistant and then teacher at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts of Copenhagen, starting fruitful collaborations with Fritz Hansen and with Ejvind Kold Christensen. These important partnerships forged the origins of masterpieces such as PK25 and PK22. His works are exhibited in the permanent collections of the most important international museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Designed by Poul Kjærholm for Fritz Hansen, the historic design icon came to light in 1957. At the time it was conceived, PK22 acquired an immediate success, becoming a true synonym of class and elegance ever since.

Immediately conquering the international design scene, PK22 was awarded the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1957. The award-winning piece is known throughout the world, and it represents one of the design icons most loved by critics.

Among numerous honours, PK22 was awarded the Lunning prize in 1958. Artistic masterpiece and symbol of modernity, the minimalist design of its seat utterly exemplifies Poul Kjærholm's avant-garde perspective.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Fritz Hansen gives rise to a limited re-edition of the historic PK22, introducing new materials and exclusive finishes. The elegant chromatic palette respects the clean design of the original piece, providing it with a trace of fresh contemporaneity.
