Lafayette amazes not only for its gold finish, but also for the scenic effect of its light metallic rays that recall those of the sun. The lamp designed by Bastien Taillard for Radar Interior is made of solid brass and is decorated with concentric frames of metal strips, to handle and move freely. The tribute is made to France under the Sun king and to the city of Paris in the 1800’s”.
From the first glance, the Shimla & Jaipur sculptures recall the Far East, the wonderful Maharajas’ residences, ancient luxury and the flavour of distant worlds. These vases stem from the design by Stefano Dussin for De Castelli, bringing together slender yet generous shapes. The pieces achieve the ultimate refinement with their gold leaf finish.
Barovier&Toso stands out for its extraordinary capacity to combine tradition and innovation and for conveying this unity to its creations. This can be seen in Opéra, a highly sophisticated lamp inspired by the Garnier Opéra, where the baroque lavishness and contemporary details play in perfect harmony, its design centred around the desire to highlight the company’s skilled craftsmanship. The essence of its design conceived by Philippe Nigro resides indeed in the process of rostrum: the technique invented by Ercole Barovier dates back to 1938 and consists of the free hand shaping of Venetian glass, “until a continuous series of faceted prisms is obtained”.
The Fountain low tables by Glas Italia originate from the poetic genius of Tokujin Yoshioka, a Japanese designer used to pushing the limits of design to create true works of art. The Fountain collection consists of a series of round low tables made of hand shaped and poured Murano glass. The irregular glass folds and the glass reflections recall the ripples of water flowing from a spring and playing with the sun’s rays to create sparks of light.
The collaboration between Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitllet for Kartell gives rise to Masters, the chair that pays homage to design “masters” and their iconic chairs: Arne Jacobsen with his Series 7™; Eero Saarinen with his little armchair Tulip; Charles Eames with his Eiffel Chair. Besides bringing together the profiles of some of the most iconic chairs in the history of design, Masters Metal stands out for the metallic finishes that enhance its preciousness and elegance: a perfect gold or silver frame to surround the Christmas table.
The Curva magazine holder designed and produced by the AYTM Danish brand is characterised by an intriguing and precious design. Intriguing, as it plays with geometric shapes combining rigorous single lines with a specific function. Precious, thanks to its gold and silver finishes which bring elegance and refinement into any space.
Once again, it is water that inspires Ferm Living for one of its most iconic pieces: the Pond series of mirrors. The form is inspired by the flowing and sinuous movements of the waves, which coexist in a metal frame with a gold finish. Preciousness and light reflections: Pond manages to transform a functional accessory like a mirror into a stand-alone art form.
The fusion takes place between two aluminum silhouettes placed one in front of the other, clasped in a loving embrace that is further emphasised by the name of the piece: Abbracciaio (an Italian word meaning embrace). The candelabra designed by Philippe Starck and Ambroise Maggiar for Kartell is perfect to furnish the dining table on the most important occasions. However, it is not just a design object, because it aspires to display a philosophy of life: with it “even candelabras fall in love”,(Philippe Starck).
