First unveiled at the annual Mindcraft12 exhibition in Milan, the Beetle chair has claimed a place of honor in the world of international design. Inspired by the particular shape and appearance of a beetle, the designers of the GamFratesi studio conceived for Gubi a collection of chairs, stools and lounge chairs defined by soft, enveloping profiles. The countless configurations available make the Beetle Chair a versatile and comfortable piece of furniture, perfect to enrich both domestic and commercial settings, such as the beautiful Alchemist restaurant recently opened in the Refshaleøen industrial district of Copenhagen.
GamFratesi's design philosophy, set up in 2006 in Copenhagen, stems from the balance between tradition and experimentation. The dual background of architects Stine Gam, from Denmark, and Enrico Fratesi, from Italy, has made it possible to keep alive the history of handcrafted furniture and to dare with an innovative approach that has an Italian flavor. The furniture that emerges includes personality and poetry, together with a minimalist and refined design. The GamFratesi studio created chairs, stools and lounge chairs for Gubi that embrace the space, becoming an integral and characterizing part of it.
The hard yet flexible outer shell softens on the inside, turning into a soft, ergonomic and and and absolutely comfortable seat. The Beetle Light Bouclé chair, fully upholstered, draws inspiration from the landscape and the iridescent colors of the beetle's shell. The subdued hues echo the earth, the foliage found in nature, as well as the stunning features of the beetle. The lightness of the conical metal legs creates an eclectic and contemporary design, perfect for home and office spaces.
The beauty of the Beetle Chair The GamFratesi Edit comes from diversity. Four new models, fabrics and colors that evoke magical and romantic atmospheres. The exclusive "A Quartet of Expressions" edition, presented by the studio for the Gubi collection, includes four upholstered versions with unique textures, from dark green and cool grey to beige and white. The darker one, upholstered in chenille, lends a smooth feel and offers exceptional seating comfort. The interwoven texture of thick bouclé and chenille yarns of the lighter version of the GamFratesi Edit collection shows a modern and eye-catching interpretation of the Beetle chair.
A revisited version of the classic chair, the Beetle Bar Chair stool completes the collection and uses its height to offer a new seating system suitable for both formal spaces and social settings. The lightness of the conical legs matches the harmonious upholstered shell that inherits the same characteristics of the well-known chair. The Beetle Bar Chair stool sets evocative and intriguing atmospheres, and it was used in the dark blue version to furnish part of the dining area of the new restaurant The Alchemist in Copenhagen.
